Beskrivning: Prevention of Acute Kidney injury in infants undergoing congenital cardiac surgery; a prospective, randomized, active-substance controlled, double-blinded clinical drug trial
There is a significant lack of knowledge regarding efficacy and safety of pediatric drugs resulting in inferior treatment of children as compared with adults. The absence of pediatric drug trials has led to off-label drug therapy in almost 50% of all hospitalized pediatric patients. The rate is markedly higher in critically ill children treated in the Pediatric intensive care units (PICUs). Acute kidney injury (AKI) and a probable subsequent need for dialysis is a common challenge for PICU patients after surgery for CHD (congenital heart diseases). AKI increases post-surgical morbidity and mortality. 
we will investigate the Levosimendan´s ability to prevent AKI compared to Milrinone. In the subsequent papers we will continue to study the Levosimendan´s safety and efficacy compared with Milrinone according the following; paper 2) Levosimendan pharmacokinetics, 3) inflammatory biomarkers including the complement system, 4) brain injury biomarkers, and 5) echocardiography and arrhythmia findings.
